El Camino Real International Heritage Center, a relatively new state monument sandwiched between Socorro and T or C off I-25, is turning five years old. You'll have to go back a few more years than that to get a glimpse of early Spanish colonial life during Saturday's Celebración de Otoño. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the monument gets all living history on us as re-enactors demonstrate what it might have been like to be a Spanish settler during the 1500s. Music by Bernie Romero and dance performances La Sociedad Colonial Española de Santa Fe top off the day's fare. Admission to all events is free. For more, call the Center at (575) 854-3600 or visit elcaminoreal.org.
Pittie the Fool
Saturday, Oct 22: Eighth Annual Pittie Parade
Apples, Pumpkins, Autumn, Oh My!
Saturday, Oct 8: Third Annual Apple and Pumpkin Fest
With the cooler temps and seasonal brews, fall also brings us pretty nifty outdoor festivals. Explore some of the lesser-known festivities of our fair state and head to the eighth annual Socorro Fest in the city plaza of Socorro (take I-25 south 75 miles). Enjoy a slew of local and regional music acts, a harmonica contest, and even a spirits tent with local wine and beer. Socorro Fest runs this Friday from 5:30 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. Entertainment and admission to the fest is free, but entry into the spirits tent is $5 for those 21-and-up. For more information, call the Visitor Center at (575) 835-8927 or visit socorrofest.com.
