Sparking Memories

Unless we go all Fahrenheit 451, the things we put down in ink will endure. With that in mind, the Alzheimer's Poetry Project uses the written and spoken word to facilitate the creativity of those afflicted with the disease. A free workshop/reading on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. brings Jimmy Santiago Baca to the National Hispanic Cultural Center as one of several authors reading their works and speaking on the subject. Project founder Gary Glazner and poet Michelle Otero will also share original works and pieces written by poets with Alzheimer's. The event is geared toward those living with the disease, as well as their family, caregivers and anyone who has been affected by Alzheimer's. Poets and audience members will also collaborate on a poem as one of the day's highlights.
