From casting a young Ricki Lake in 1988's Hairspray and drag queen extraordinaire Divine in cult films such as Polyester and Mondo Trasho, there's been no shortage of creative and controversial carnage in John Waters' decades-long career. Even Beat poet William Burroughs knighted him "The Pope of Trash," a name befitting Waters' sleazy style. Waters talks about his filmmaking career, sexual deviancy, true crime, fashion, religion and more today from 3 to 5 p.m. at UNM's Popejoy Hall (203 Cornell NE). Tickets can be had from $19 to $39 by visiting popejoypresents.
