Kenta Henmi wields his axe with precision and style. He played Song Roulette with us this week. The guitarist’s current projects include the Jonny Cats, Glitter Dick, High Iron, Suicide Lanes and Pumpin’ for Jill. The newest, Pumpin’ for Jill, is named for an Iggy Pop tune and Henmi’s wife, Natalie Bruce, is the principal songwriter for the group. See the reborn Jonny Cats perform on Wednesday night. Check out music from the Jonny Cats, Koffin Kats, Terri Schiavo Dance Party and Glitter Dick after the jump. For the last year, Kenta Henmi (Suicide Lanes, Teenage Werewolves, High Iron, The Scrams) has been in and out of hospital beds. Considering the decade and a half (and then some) of superior guitar rock Henmi has contributed to the New Mexico music scene, it’s our turn to repay the man. A last-minute benefit show at the Launchpad tonight will donate the proceeds to help defray their outlandish medical expenses. Find out more here.
From Albuquerque to Las Cruces, Kenta Henmi has been slinging a guitar around these parts for well over 15 years. In the past 12 months, though, he’s been plagued with a series of health issues that have kept him in and out hospital beds, and now the local music community is coming together to lend him a hand.
