Absentee Voting on Municipal Late-Term Abortion Ban Starts Today

Here's where and when you may cast your vote

Although New Mexico's Attorney General Gary King issued an informal opinion declaring this first-of-its-kind municipal abortion ban unconstitutional, proponents gathered enough signatures to force the inclusion of the "Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance" on a ballot in a special election. This law would make it illegal in Albuquerque to perform abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy and has no exceptions for cases of incest or rape. It is widely agreed that because such a ban would be unenforceable (because it flies in the face of state and federal law) the object of right-to-lifers is to appeal the issue through the courts in a challenge to the Roe v. Wade decision.

This is an important decision for voters. Absentee voting began today and early voting begins on October 30th. Until November 15th, you may cast your in-person absentee or early vote at the City Clerk's office on the 7th floor of the Plaza Del Sol building at 600 2nd NW 87102 or at the City Records Office located at 604 Menaul NW 87107. These two polls are open from 9am to 6pm Monday through Friday. Election day for this issue is November 19th. Here is a list of places to vote on the late-term abortion ban on the 19th.
