Last weekend, the geeks had their annual "prom" at Albuquerque Comic Expo. This weekend, the carnivores will reign supreme at the 11th annual Pork & Brew BBQ State Championship, a three-day celebration of all things meaty and grilled. There will be beer, wine tastings, eating contests and samples galore, and if you don't go through an entire case of wetwipes by the end of the first day, you're doing it wrong. The event starts tomorrow and continues on Saturday, July 5, from 11am to 8pm both days, and Sunday, July 6, from 11am to 5pm. Tickets range from $20-$60. Takin' it Back to the Ring: WWE Live!
I have somewhat of a history with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). But back in my day, it was called the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), and them's was the good ol' days. Because back then, you had wrestlers like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels and, one of my personal favorites, Hulk Hogan. Even The Rock was good, until he decided to leave his throng of fans (who probably still miss the people's eyebrow) to pursue acting. Granted, I haven't watched a wrestling match since I was 12, but the allure of seeing these heroes duke it out in the ring while body slamming their sworn enemies was always something to look forward to on “Monday Night Raw.” And now, more people can have that experience at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho (3001 Civic Center Cir. NE).
Though I'm not familiar with a number of wrestlers on the evening's roster, people can bask in body slams, pile drivers and power bombs (assuming those moves are still in fashion) by the likes of Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Ryback, Curtis Axel, Goldust (who still kind of scares me) and more. The matches happen on Sunday, June 8, at 5pm. Tickets range from $19.75 to $99.75. So don't forget to sport your wrestling shirt and make a sign that bashes your favorite wrestler's enemy. That's just part of the fun. Santa Ana Star Center, Rio Rancho • Sun Jun 8 • 5-9pm • $19.75-$99.75 • ALL-AGES! • View on Alibi calendar
