Who’s playing at Sister this week?

Like, especially, who’s playing Friday and Saturday?

Well, you can’t find out from their ad in the Alibi this week because we (I) screwed up and lost the ad for Sister in the shuffle. But most notably at Sister, this week:

Friday, May 31, catch an ear-crunching, face-melting stoner-rock assault from Albuquerque’s super-heavy SuperGiant, teaming up with rockabilly favorite Cowboys and Indian. The show starts at 10 p.m. and tickets are $5.

The following night, Saturday June 1, Sister invites you to pull out your fancy dance moves, drink some delicious Beat Sauce and spend an evening wiggling and jiggling to the spinning of DJ Nicolatron, Brendangerous, Dirt Girl, Ben Bitten and a special visual dessert from Benji Geary.

I heard all of your friends are going to both shows.

Album Release

Pistol Star

SuperGiant’s oracular third creation

On Saturday, July 9, SuperGiant releases its third (mystical, heavy, bitchin’) album Pistol Star, recorded over the past two years with Sid Garcia at Sight 16 Studio. The Alibi was previously unable to cover SuperGiant happenings given the fact that half of the band was employed by the paper. That no longer being the case, below, in our first article on the band, vocalist Joel Rogers discusses equipment, symbolism and the mysteries of existence.

Random tracks from SuperGiant’s Jeremy McCollum

Jeremy McCollum is a guitar player and former Alibi web monkey. Now—when not building his ticketing empire, HoldMyTicket.com—he and his band SuperGiant are working on the July release of a third album, Pistol Star. See them play at the Launchpad on Saturday, June 4, with fellow stoner/doom/metal/psych acts Orange Goblin, The Gates of Slumber and Naam. The 21-and-over show is $10 and starts at 9 p.m. Below are five random tracks from his iPod.
