Saturday, Nov. 29; O'Niell's Uptown (21 and over, 5 p.m.): NM Brewfest presents another great beer tasting/competition with six of New Mexico's premium breweries. NM Brewfest has been offering this type of event all year long, but this is the most promising yet.

So here's your chance (if you're 21 or older) to taste samples of beer from Blue Corn Café and Brewery of Albuquerque, Tractor Brewing., Turtle Mountain Brewing Co., Santa Fe Brewing Co., Assetts Grille & Brewing Co. and Il Vicino Brewing Co. Admission is only $5, and for an additional five bucks drinkers will receive samples of beers from all six breweries as well as a beer mug commemorating the event.

If you're not in the mood to down glass after glass of ale, go just to check out the music, which starts at 6 p.m. Local favorite Kimo will host and perform, and as a special treat Stoic Frame will play a rare acoustic set. The complete list of entertainers goes a little something like this: Susan Gibson (formerly of the Groobees. She also wrote the Dixie Chicks' no. 1 hit, “Wide Open Spaces”) and guest Michael O'Connor, Nels Andrews and the El Paso Eye Patch, Chris Dracup and band, Inphusion and Audio Drain. For the first time, the performances will be recorded by sponsor Homegrown Digital Recording Studio, reproduced by Rolling R Productions CD Duplication and released on a compilation CD. Advance copies can be ordered at the event.

So, there will be blow-out beer and a bonanza of beats provided … and as far as I know, that's all you really need in life.
