Albuquerque's premier experimental noise band from the Cenozoic Era, Sabertooth Cavity, is getting its van road-ready and heading out.
These are some of the “normal” ways of getting music done. But for adventurous musicians, such everyday forms—even everyday instruments—don’t always serve their artistic impulses. These musical explorers search for new ways to communicate. They also need an audience with whom to share their discoveries.
Enter Mark Weaver, architect, tuba player, and adventurous musician and listener, who wondered how he could help out. His answer: The Roost, a series of “emergent creative music,” says the statement of purpose, “curated with an eye to originality, freshness of approach, and artistic vision.”

Portugal. The Man's fourth album in as many years was recorded in a week and a half. The Wasilla, Alaska foursome clearly thrives on brevity: The Satanic Satanist is richly textured, finely tuned and gorgeously orchestrated. There's a certain cosmic-carnival taste you can lick off the spiraling guitars, and nearly every song flows into the next, making the record seem like a continuous psychedelic jam. (That shouldn't surprise anyone who picks up the CD, since the cover art is nothing if not trippy.) Portugal. The Man continues to streamline its sound without telegraphing its next move. (SM)
