Meat, meat, meat. All-you-can-eat meat. And then there's the salad bar. This joint’s got more dead meat than you can shake a chunk of meat on a stick at. From the kill to the grill, Tucanos makes all your dreams come true. That is, if you dream about meaty hunks of marinated flesh sliced right at your table. This lively, busy and fun Brazilian-themed restaurant next to the Century 14 movie theater is open late.

Albuquerque - Food Truck

Street Food Institute

@streetfoodinstitute (Food Truck)
Albuquerque NM
www.streetfoodinstitute.org
The Street Food Institute is way more than just a food truck. It’s a non-profit program that fosters young chefs and entrepreneurs by providing them with the resources, education and hands-on training that they need to start their own culinary businesses. A part of that hands-on training involves crafting menus and cooking up food in the SFI truck, which stops at Marble Downtown most Wednesday evenings. Check them out on Instagram (@streetfoodinstitute) to see what their menu of the day is and where they’ll be parked tonight.

Albuquerque - North Valley

El Papaturro

6601 Fourth St. NW (North Valley)
Albuquerque NM 87107
505-503-1575
Mon closed Tue-Sat 9am-8pm Sun 10am-5pm (hours can change without notice)
Meals Served: BreakfastLunchDinner
This quiet little establishment in the North Valley is serving up some majorly tasty Salvadoran food. Go for one of their lunch specials like the filling El Papaturro plate, or have a big steaming bowl of seafood or beef caldo on a cold evening. We love their homemade tomato sauce on top of pupusas and tamales, and the side of curtido adds a nice acidic kick to every dish.

Albuquerque - Northeast Heights

Poki Poblano Fusion Lounge

6910 Montgomery Blvd NE Ste A (Northeast Heights)
Albuquerque NM 87110
505-369-1194
pokipoblano.com
Mon-Thu 11am-10pm, Fri-Sat 11am-midnight, Sun noon-9:30pm (hours can change without notice)
Meals Served: LunchDinner
Fusion cuisine is always hit or miss, and this one is a definite hit. Chef Elvis Bencomo (previously of Pasion Latin Fusion) has a knack for combining the tastiest ingredients from different cultures in new and interesting ways. Take Poki Poblano’s plantain empanadas, for example: you think I’m talking about pastry filled with plaintains, right? Nah. Here, you get empanadas that are made with plantain dough—the filling is housemade vegan feta and spinach. Sounds pretty wacky, but it works so well. Plenty of (well-labeled) options for the vegan and the gluten free crowd here.

Pupuseria y Restaurant Salvadoreño

1701 Bridge Blvd SW (South Valley)

(505) 243-8194
Mon-Fri: 10am-8pm Sat: 9am-8pm Sun: 10am-8pm (hours can change without notice)
Meals Served: BreakfastLunchDinner
Albuquerque’s first Salvadoran restaurant is definitely worth checking in on, because, brothers and sisters, if you love sweet plantain, this place has the best in town. It’s also got the best pupusa—no relation to the pupu platter—and who doesn’t like the idea of a soft, thick corn tortilla filled with meat (chicharrón, fish, beef or ham) and cheese? Make it lunch with a tall glass of horchata.

All of these components deliberately put together create a burst of different flavors and textures in your mouth. What about drinks? Dont sweat it.
