Dr. Ira ("Ike") Padnos runs the Ponderosa Stomp Foundation, a nonprofit that "exists to acknowledge, pay tribute to, and teach the cultural significance of the unsung heroes and heroines of rock-n-roll, rhythm & blues and other forms of American roots music—while they are still alive."
The mission is complex, but the means is simple: Get those old guys out and let them play.
Doc. Padnos spoke with the Alibi about putting the spotlight back on side players and trailblazers of American music, and the eighth Ponderosa Stomp festival at the House of Blues in New Orleans, coming up in the last week of April.
Word to Marisa Demarco for manning the camera.
