Most Annoying Expressions

The eggheads at the University of Oxford have crafted a list of what they believe are the top 10 most annoying phrases in the English language. I wonder what kind of judging process is involved in that.

Here are the great offenders:

1) At the end of the day

2) Fairly unique

3) I personally

4) At this moment in time

5) With all due respect

6) Absolutely

7) It's a nightmare

8) Shouldn't of

9) 24/7

10) It's not rocket science

While all of these phrases are admittedly irritating and some border on illiteracy, I don’t agree that they’re the most annoying of all the misused, overused and clichéd phrases sputtered by English speakers. I’m more inclined to agree with the author of this Wired.com article, and I’ll add some of my own: “plethora,” “palooza,” “literally.”

What words make you angry?
