There’s a big deal vote headed to the Senate floor within hours. Military Commissions Act of 2006 would seriously affect the rights of green-card holders and legal residents. One of the major issues with the bill: the suspension of habeas corpus. This editorial in the New York Times highlights some of the bill’s major flaws and calls for a filibuster. Yes, the New York Times is calling for a filibuster.

I called Sen. Domenici’s office to ask his position on the bill—his office aid said he is against it. So far, no senator has stepped up to filibuster the bill. If you want to let our senators know what you think about the bill, call the senate switchboard at (202) 225-3121. Let’s see how this plays out, and what it means for the future of our “nation of laws.”
