Happy Fall, Albuquerque! Don’t worry, it’s not quite the holiday season yet, so take advantage of those free weekends while you can.

Old-Timey Town— Are there events going on at Old Town every weekend that I just don’t know about? Hum … There are some events goin’ on this weekend, starting tonight with Mariachi Nuevo Mexico roaming the plaza and Steve Chavez and the New Mexico Marimba Band playing from 6 to 8 p.m. Tomorrow, there will be entertainment from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. including Greek dancers, Belladonna, Why Mosquitos Buzz in People’s Ears and more. On Sunday, there will be New Mexico Gunfigher shows through out Old Town at 1:30. 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.

Lightning Café— I have three major fears: heights, lightning and David Bowe. KNME’s Science Café is talking about one of them on Saturday, Sept. 30, and it’s not the Goblin King (thank goodness!). From 10 a.m. to noon, enjoy light refreshments, watch a segment of NOVA and learn about lightning in New Mexico at the National Atomic Museum (1905 Mountain NW). Remember—lightning kills. So does falling from great heights. I don’t think David Bowe kills, but he sure would be present in my hell.

Go Tribal— Sharon Kihara of the Bellydance Superstars will be one of the performers at the Lobo Theater on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door. For more info, call 265-0433 or visit Bellydance Now or Tribal Souk.

Happy 40th Popejoy— To celebrate it’s 40th season, Popejoy is having a free birthday bash on Sunday, Oct. 1. There will be ticket giveaways every hour, a ticket sale for major shows, entertainment, face-painting and desserts from Flying Star. Events go from 1 to 6 p.m. Don’t miss Stanley the Scorpion at 2:30 p.m. He’s the mascot for the New Mexico Scorpions. You know, the hockey team. Yes, we have a hockey team.

Al Gore on the Big Screen— If you haven’t seen An Inconvenient Truth yet here’s your opportunity. Partnership for Earth Spirituality and the City on a Hill are hosting a free screening of the film at the Lobo Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m. followed by a discussion about Global Warming.
