As a dorky prepubescent, I briefly engaged in the age-old hobby of coin collecting. Unfortunately, after six to eight months of it, the nonstop action and thrills eventually became too much for me to handle. I moved on to other things.My parents still have a box somewhere, a largely worthless miscellany of foreign and US coins. As far as US coins go, my all-time favorite is still the humble Buffalo Nickel, which was in circulation from 1913 to 1938. That, my friends, is a good-lookin’ coin.These days, US money is almost entirely about glorifying dead presidents. Why is this! Only whitebread Republicans care about that kind of thing. This is why the new presidential dollar coin isn’t even worthy of an abbreviated yawn. Can we have some originality please? I’d like to see Jimi Hendrix get his own coin.
