Angelina Jolie has gotten a lot of attention for her brave, unglamorous portrayal of Mariane Pearl’s real-life account of searching for her husband, Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped in Pakistan. The low-key docudrama (directed by 24 Hour Party People ‘s Michael Winterbottom) thrives on gritty detail, though audiences not already interested in the subject matter may find it a demanding and depressing film.
