Excellent (Russian? I think?) art blog Face Your Pockets asks people to scan in their faces along with the stuff from their jacket pockets, pants pockets, backpack pockets, etc. It reminds me of this great book The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. The first chapter is all about the things U.S. soldiers are carrying into Vietnam. An old writing teahcer of mine used that chapter to create an assignment in which we wrote about the things we students carried. Today, I carry:Wallet, 3 lighters for those cigarettes I’m not supposed to be smoking, a cell phone, change, a planner, a zoning hearing agenda for a story I’m working on, passes to the State Fair where my band will be playing on Friday, CDs for review, The Last Man comic, two notebooks, my iPod and gear for doing interviews, earplugs for noise shows, many stolen pens. How about you?
