Who made the corruption list? Who’s in the hot seat if Councilor Harris loses? Who’s going pro se ? Does the state make any money from the movies it finances? 1) A watchdog group in Washington put three New Mexican politicians on a list of the most corrupt members of Congress. ANSWERS 1) D. The list was released by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington and spotlights 22 members of Congress, 18 Republicans and four Democrats. Rep. Heather Wilson and Sen. Pete Domenici are on the list because of allegations that they pressured U.S. Attorney David Iglesias. Rep. Steve Pearce made the list because of an allegation that he didn’t disclose his financial worth in 2003. 2) C. Mayor Martin Chavez would appoint a councilor to Harris‘ seat, breaking up the six-person unit known for overriding Chavez vetoes for the first time in the mayor’s history. 3) B. State District Judge Kenneth Martinez ruled Samora can represent himself at a Nov. 26 trial on charges of first-degree murder, robbery, aggravated battery and tampering with evidence. If convicted on all charges, Samora could serve more than 40 years in prison. 4). A. The state got its first payout from show business loans; a $500,000 check came in from Lions Gate Entertainment for Employee of the Month . The state gets 10.15 percent of the movie’s profits after production costs are covered. New Mexico gave interest-free loans to more than 20 flicks so far, including $13 million to Employee . Twenty-one productions borrowed about $198 million from the state as of July 31. They created 3,261 jobs and spent $168.7 million in the state.
