A friend who went to Russia on exchange and found the currency confusing. So he began what I’ll call Breadconomics, (because I’m feeling all wordmeldy today).

He remembered how much a loaf of bread cost, and then evaluated all of his purchases according to how many loaves of bread it was worth. It’s not a bad system, even if you’re familiar with your country’s money. Considering purchasing a concert ticket? How many loaves of bread can you buy with that?

This site works similarly. People from around the world submit photos of things that cost
$5.

Golden shoes. A book on bacon. Two cans of soup. Oven mitts. A hen in Uganda. Condoms in Helsinki.
