A case of the Mondays turned into Monday Funday when the Compromising of Integrity, Morality and Principles in Exchange for Money Tour–featuring All Time Low, Mayday Parade, The Maine and Every Avenue–came through Albuquerque two days ago. The bands put on a cohesive, jam-packed show over the course of a few hours at Sunshine Theater. Every Avenue, from Michigan, just came off a tour with Rio Rancho’s BrokeNcyde and kicked off the night with bubble-gum pop and power. The Maine was next to hit the stage, bringing in a massive crowd of youngins. The band played an easy 45-minute set of lighthearted lyrics and beats, including its TRL hit “The Way We Walk.” The only thing left out was The Main’s featured cover song from last year’s Punk Goes Crunk album: a twist on Akon’s “I Wanna Love You.” Mayday Parade was up next, though lead singer Derek Sanders strong range and realtime presence could have (and should have) earned the band the headlining spot this tour. As Mayday’s members paraded on stage with matching vest-and-suspenders outfits, the eager crowd’s reaction was enthusiastic and vocal. Mayday Parade started off with “Black Cat” and “When I Get Home.” Mid-set, Sanders broke out and played “Miserable at Best,” with acoustic and piano accompaniment. “Jamie All Over” was a perfect ending; their strongest and the most heartfelt song, with lyrics that make you think of person you love.Last up, All Time Low approached the stage dressed from head to toe in flying pig-logoed Glamour Kills clothing. But lead singer Alex Gaskarth’s voice was shot. He said he’d been feeling ill lately, that his vocals were suffering because of his sore throat. He still tried his best to belt out songs like “Six Feet under the Stars” and “Coffee Shop Soundtrack.” The group’s hit “Jasey Rae” was muffled due to Gaskarth’s voice and probably would have benefited from an unplugged, acoustic treatment. Another disappointing facet of the set was yet another missed opportunity to play something from Punk Goes Crunk –the All Time Low cover of Rihanna’s "Umbrella." But despite the hurting vocals, the energy of the other band members and the crowd was one of over-the-top excitement. Monotonous Mondays is the norm in Albuquerque; but when Joe Anderson books kick-ass shows on a weekday, it gives folks something more to look forward to than the weekend.
