Blak Rino owner Sam Oden says his store caters to the male and female punk, goth, hip-hop and skater crowds. His vintage T-shirts, designer handbags, and new and used threads are decidedly youth-oriented. Next door, the Pink Rhino has a similar college-age demographic, but with less goth garb and more trade-in clothing.
Northeast Cyclery
It’s been here for 20 years, and Northeast Cyclery is one of the oldest bicycle shops in the city. "You wouldn’t know it when you look at it from the outside, but it’s also one of the largest," says owner Mike Viga. There are bikes for folks of every age and size, and the store also rents bikes, snowboards and skis. There are a few vintage wheels rolling around the store as well.
Juliet's Closet
Juliet’s Closet brings women’s fashions from Los Angeles and New York to younger baby boomers in Albuquerque. "These are not things you could find at Macy’s or Dillard’s," explains owner Juliet Grant-Ginsberg. The double-sided skirts, crocheted tops, sweaters and slacks range from dressy to semi-casual. Grant-Ginsberg is highly attentive to her customers and makes sure all their questions are answered.
Bubba's Baseball Bullpen
Bubba’s is one of the very best places in the city to find choice sports cards. Owner Bubba Bennett says he has the largest collection of baseball, football, basketball and hockey cards in Albuquerque. Bennett also sells autographed photos and balls. If you’re looking to sell or trade, the staff can tell you the book value of the cards you own.
