Break out your Elinor Dashwood costume and head over to Cherry Hills library for Jane Austen week. Events include film (tonight), parlor games (Wed.), dance (Thurs.) and an afternoon tea (Fri.). When I was in college and deep into my no-femininity feminism, the novels of Jane Austen broke through that because a.) she’s one of the greatest novelists ever, b.) her novels are not about marriage as we think of it but rather about women exercising a great amount of power in the limited scope they were provided and c.) have you SEEN the Colin Firth dive-in-the-pond scene in “Pride and Prejudice”? I can’t promise that the action will be that hot at Cherry Hills, but you might learn to play whist, which is also neat.
