With a brand spankin’ new president being inaugurated and a new year elevated into full swing, now is your chance to partake in some weekend debauchery before that oh-so depressing holiday involving candy hearts hits you square in the face. Here’s a couple sans-impending doom activities to set your spirit afloat.

Premiere of “The L Word” at Exhale Nightclub and Grill

The Human Rights Campaign and Showtime will host a premiere party for “The L Word,” a Showtime mega-series that depicts the lives of a group of women in L.A. The show has received critical acclaim for its accurate portrayal of loving gay and lesbian families, and is nearing its final season. The bash also supports a good cause in educating attendees on passing the Domestic Partner Rights and Responsibilities Act in New Mexico. It all goes down this Sunday, January 18th at Exhale (6132 Fourth Street NW) from 5 to 11 p.m. Admission is free, but a $5 donation is suggested with proceeds used to pass the equal rights legislation.

National Day of Service at Ronald McDonald House

In conjunction with soon-to-be President Obama’s call for a day of service, the Democratic Party of New Mexico is sponsoring an event which also commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Talk about having your cake and eating it too! The DPNM is calling for volunteers to meet Monday, January 19 th at the Ronald McDonald House and Casa Esperanza (1011 Yale NE) to offer a helping hand from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. More than 100 volunteers have already pledged, so assemble your forces and head on down! Visit nmdemocrats.org for more info.
