The NSA Tried to Spy on a Congressman
Share ::
The New York Times did some digging and discovered that the National Security Agency wanted to wiretap a member of Congress without a warrant. The Times wasn’t able to determine the "Congressman’s" identity, but the paper did discover the NSA didn’t go through with the wiretap, because it was—ahem—illegal.

The article quotes US officials who
say the NSA’s wiretapping program "exceeded the law" in other instances.

This is the kind of story that only newspapers break. The
Times is in serious financial trouble, and if it dies, who knows what effects its demise will have on the government’s spy tactics.
