I sit down at a lunch counter with seven or eight Chinese men. A gambling game is being played with cookies. I snack from a box of cookies as I watch. A box of cookies of different shapes is purchased. The old man behind the curtain throws them up in the air so that they all land back in the box. The manner in which they land and touch each other determines the outcome of the game. Illuminated pictures on the wall, like menu selections, list the possible outcomes. The man next to me plays and quickly loses $50.
