If you’re watching analog TV tonight, you’ll see a two-minute interruption at 6:25 p.m, 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on channels 7, 13 and 2. It’s a soft test of the conversion to digital TV. The big switchover is scheduled to happen Friday, June 12.

These tests are supposed to alert analog holdouts that they’ll be screwed once the digital transition happens. “A soft test simulates to some extent what unprepared viewers will experience when the DTV transition occurs,” according to the Federal Communications Commission news release. Nielsen estimates 3.3 million households nationwide are unprepared. (Or maybe they just don’t like TV anymore. Heaven forbid people just give it up.)

Albuquerque is considered a “hotspot” of unpreparedness. As of May 10, Nielsen said 8.4 percent of Albuquerque and Santa Fe households were behind the DTV curve.
