California Supreme Court Upholds Gay Marriage Ban

The highest court in California decided gay marriage in California will remain banned.

Gay rights activists argued the ban revised the California constitution’s equal rights clause, and thus needed to be approved by the legislature before it could be allowed to stand. The court disagreed, but did allow the 18,000 couples who wed before the ban went into effect to stay married.
