Two journalists working for Current TV, a station founded in part by former Vice President Al Gore, were arrested on the China-North Korea border. According to most news stories, they had accidentally crossed into North Korea’s territory. As reported in today’s Daily Word, they’ve been sentenced to 12 years of hard labor. Observers were not allowed into the courtroom.

The concept of
Current TV is great. Reporters and nonreporters alike create its content. Clips are of varying length, timely or not, and cover topics and people you won’t see anywhere else on the dial.

Incredibly,
Current TV is not speaking to the harsh punishment of Ling and Euna Lee. The station should have its reporters’ backs. Gore and all of his political weight should be fighting full force to bring home the journalists who sweat for his TV brainchild.

The State Department is keeping mum on Gore negotiations so far.
