FOUND Magazine creator Davy Rothbart returns to New Mexico
Good Luck With That—FOUND by David Gonda “Found by a tree outside the Downtown library. It's written on half of an envelope and says, ‘Hey Luv’ on the other side. I can't figure out if this note is pointedly sarcastic or completely sincere. I also wonder if this person misspelled Paula, or if she really has 2 L's in her name.”

By now, if you’ve not heard of FOUND you’re probably some weird shut-in, a cave troglodyte, Amish or Mister Magoo.

First published in 2001, the magazine serves as a receptacle for the odd, funny or sad pieces of anonymous ephemera we come across along the way. To celebrate the release of
FOUND’s new book, Requiem for a Paper Bag , writer, filmmaker, “This American Life” contributor and FOUND creator Davy Rothbart brings the magazine’s Denim and Diamonds Tour 2009 to town this weekend. Before the appearance—which will include stories, songs performed by Peter Rothbart, dance (well, we hope) and the sharing of new finds—Davy gave us permission to print some finds found in Albuquerque.

Bros Davy and Peter Rothbart will be at Guild Cinema (3405 Central NE) on Saturday, June 27, at 8 p.m. All seats are $8. For more details, call 255-1848 or go to www.guildcinema.com.

Graphic Designer—FOUND by Kathy at University of New Mexico “I found this stuck to my monitor one afternoon when I returned from a meeting. No one in the office owned up. I hope whomever left it is OK ...”

I'm Not Crazy—FOUND by James F. “Found this cryptic message and picture under a bridge on Tramway. It's written on the front of what appears to be a really old Radio Shack receipt (judging by the warranty/return information printed on the back). The picture was attached to the message in pretty much the same place. The material of the picture makes me think it is part of a business card or a pamphlet clipping.”

Saturn Devours Youth—FOUND by Dave Gonda “I found this today on the floor at the Guild Cinema, a small independent theater here in Albuquerque. We were in the lobby between showings of a double feature consisting of Death Race 2000 and Wild in the Streets when I saw this on the floor and, of course, picked it up. I have no idea what it means.”

Fortress of Solitude—FOUND by Valerie Roybal “Found this photo of this very lifelike (waxen?) man of steel on the floor of a very cluttered garage. Could it be a forgotten, long-lost vacation photo or an occupant leftover?”
