Creative Albuquerque (formerly the Arts Alliance) is pleased to announce that Regina Chavez has been named Executive Director. Ms. Chavez, well known in the Albuquerque arts, culture and economic development scene, joins the organization on February 1, 2010. Creative Albuquerque promotes economic development through arts, education and culture.

“We could not possibly ask for anyone with a more perfect background for the exciting task at hand than Regina,” says Kevin Hagen, president of the board of Creative Albuquerque. “It is as if all her experience and background were designed with the birth of Creative Albuquerque in mind.”

Ms. Chavez will lead the organization’s efforts to harness and promote what the arts and culture contribute to the economic development and rich cultural environment of our community.

A seasoned presenter, facilitator, fundraiser and community leader, Ms. Chavez’s background includes work with the City of Albuquerque’s economic development department where she focused on arts and cultural economic development and small business incentives; and the aviation department, for which she developed and managed the arts program of the Albuquerque International Sunport. Most recently, she helmed Cultural Econ, a private consulting practice focusing on creative economy planning and the arts and cultural industries.

Her educational background includes a Master of Community & Regional Planning from the University of New Mexico, School of Architecture & Planning, and a Bachelor of University Studies with a major in economics, also from UNM.
