The 12th Annual Independent Games Festival will take place March 9-13 in San Francisco. Each year, the festival sponsors a competition to find the best independent and student-programmed games. This year’s list of finalists is up, and there are some amazing entries. So far, my favorite is the totally addictive Continuity. This simple but ingenious game looks like your basic platformer—except for one brilliant twist. The playing field is made up of cards, which you must rearrange in order to find the correct layout to move about. It takes about 30 seconds to figure out the mechanics, but the inventive gameplay will have you clicking away for hours.
