The Bosque is on fire near Bridge and 8th Street. The sky in the Downtown area is yellow as smoke plumes drift through the afternoon sky. The wind is making it hard to contain the fire. UPDATE: Shortly after I posted this blog, I rode my bike into Barelas just north of the fire. The smoke was thick, visible in the neighborhood, and residents stood along the sidewalk with their shirts pulled up over their noses. The National Hispanic Cultural Center was evacuated earlier in the day, along with some businesses in the area and homes south of the NHCC. The fire encompassed about 40 acres, according to this KOB report that was updated at about 5:30 p.m.
