MMA If you missed UFC 116, I feel very sorry for you. Coming into this show, other than the main event of Shane Carwin vs. Brock Lesnar, there wasn’t very much to look forward to. But most of the fights were dramatic and action-packed, providing heart-stopping moments. Carwin came with just a couple of hard punches of becoming champion, but referee Josh Rosenthal didn’t stop the fight and gave new life to Lesnar. After Carwin used all of the energy for the finish, he had little power in the second round, and Lesnar capitalized with an arm triangle submission. And one of the most unlikely MMA champions became the No. 1 heavyweight in the world. The event was also filled with former pro wrestling stars cheering on Lesnar. Among them, former wrestling manager and friend of Lesnar, Paul Heyman. Keep your eyes on Heyman as he makes Lesnar more likable to fans and could be a new mouthpiece for self proclaimed, toughest S.O.B on the planet. On the undercard, Chris Leben (who took the fight with two weeks notice against Yoshihiro Akiyama) pulled of a late submission in the third round. Leben was in the most win situation two weeks ago and now may be fighting for a title shot against Wanderlei Silva. Hot Dog Eating There are two things the Fourth of July must have; fireworks and the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. Calling these guys athletes is pretty ridiculous but seeing them push dogs down their throats like its their last supper provides great entertainment. Defending champ Joey Chestnut hammered 54 dogs, but his arch rival, Takeru Kobayashi , stole all the headlines by getting arrested for storming the stage after the contest was over. Kobayashi was in a contract dispute with Major League Eating and did not participate in the contest but was still in the audience. Next time Kobayashi might want to stick with wolfing down beef tubes instead taking on the NYPD.
