Elephant 6 is an influential collective / cult / record label that began in the late ’80s as a Ruston, La.-based high school home-recording experiment. It grew as the years passed, went on to relocate headquarters to Denver, Colo. and Athens, Ga. and spawned bands that deal heavily in psych, indie and folk—The Apples in Stereo, Neutral Milk Hotel and Of Montreal to name a few. Seventeen-year-old Athens psychedelic band Elf Power is part of Elephant 6 and, I’m proud to say, of the bunch it’s the group I’ve loved the most. Its music is like the embodiment of a fantasy novel—full of magic, darkness and shimmering crescendos. Elf Power is on tour in support of its self-titled 10 th album, and makes a stop at the Launchpad on tonight at 9 p.m. Admission is $8 and the show is 21-and-over.
