In a small nightclub I watch an East Indian family band perform. One member has a black, rubber-bladder bagpipe that he plays by squashing the bladder into the floor. Another has a wind instrument with a base that incorporates a live, giant cobra. He warns the crowd that has gathered to stand back and then blows an enormous blast. The snake uncoils, opens its mouth wide and emits an awful stench, scattering the crowd.
