Best City Political Stinkeroo
Sally Mayer squashing the green cone art scheduled for the new I-40 Louisiana Interchange. She missed the public meeting when her constituents spoke in favor of it, sneaks it into a City Council meeting around the City Arts Board and made sure it was vetoed soundly. Now she’s trying to appoint herself to the Arts Board—if that happens we’ll probably end up with a giant cowboy boot as an Uptown landmark.
Best Place To Eat and Listen to Live Music
Now you’re going to think I’m an old fart for saying this, but I love Mykonos on a Friday night! The trio there plays some jazz and cool music from the '40s. I usually run into people I know there and the food is always outstanding. You have to sit in the bar area, order something Greek and kick back to some Frank Sinatra-like crooning.
Best Cultural Bargain
OFFCenter Community Arts is a great place to learn about art, meet artists and commune with all sorts of people. It’s free to go make art and new friends!
Best Florist
Manning Florist on Louisiana and Menaul. Jim performs miracles with flowers, especially tropical arrangements. He’s more expensive, but always over-delivers on what he promises. The arrangements he made for the museum’s Chocolate Fantasy earlier this month were simple and very elegant.
