Aside from his decidedly dark short stories and poems, there’s a great mystery surrounding the death of Edgar Allan Poe: He was found delirious on the streets of Baltimore, speaking bizarre words and dressed in someone else’s garb. More than 160 years later, the KiMo Theatre (423 Central NW) hosts the National Endowment for the Arts’ Big Read kickoff event in honor of Poe. Lou Harmon performs as the deceased writer with dramatic readings, a historical biography and audience interaction. Come costumed as Poe himself or any one of his famous characters and you could win a prize. For more information and a complete schedule of events in the area, visit libguides.cabq.gov/bigread.
