A visit to the Dirty Bourbon Dance Hall and Saloon is well worth the drive to the Northeast Heights. What other bar in town boasts a mechanical bull? It’s more than a bar. The Bourbon hosts live bands, a 1300-square foot dance floor and dance lessons. There’s even a disco ball shaped like a saddle.Get down there to live music, including country, including one of the regular acts, Asphalt Cowboy Band. Aside from the usual suspects, they also host touring artists. Performers are mostly country, but there are some exceptions. March Fourth Marching Band from Portland, Ore. played a show in December. Sundays feature local performers and they welcome all genres, says general manager Kaleen Cleland.Cover charges vary, and the thoroughly Western bar offers weekly events like Two-Step Tuesdays with country/western dance lessons. On Tuesdays, there’s Giant Jenga, ConnectFour and a cornhole/bean bag toss. Learn West Coast swing on Wednesdays. Thursday is Ladies Night and includes drink specials. On Fridays, there are line-dancing lessons. Saturday features live music and Sundays’ bands are always all-local. There are free games on Sunday, including pool and shuffle board. Get your buck on for free on Sundays; mechanical bull rides are normally $3 per buck or two rides for $5.Don’t think you have to dress all honky-tonk, but it does add to the fun. During winter, one Friday per month is Flannel Friday and those rocking the grunge fashion staple or plaid get in for free. The Bourbon has a similar special during the summer, says Cleland. Whether you’re dancing, chilling or just down to get your drink on, the Dirty Bourbon is well equipped. Two bars surround the dance floor to keep thirsty patrons fueled up.
