I strongly oppose adding sodium fluoride to our water. Fluoridation is not legal in Sweden, Denmark and Holland. France and Norway have never fluoridated. Germany and Belgium stopped fluoridation.

Test animals kept on fluoridated water and later autopsied suffered degeneration in their vital organs compared to similar test animals given the
same food and no fluoridated water.

Sodium fluoride is more toxic than lead and slightly less toxic than arsenic, but several hundred times more fluoride than lead or arsenic is allowed in water.

Sodium fluoride slowly accumulates in the body over many years. Sodium fluoride can cause arthritis, thyroid disease, early aging, osteoporosis, Down syndrome, behavior problems, hip and neck fractures, muscle weakness, chronic fatigue, skin rashes, birth defects, joint paints, digestive upsets, tingling in toes and fingers, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, bone cancer, ovary cancer, breast cancer, stomach and intestinal cancer, genetic damage and lowered immunity.

Chief biochemist emeritus Dean Burk of the National Cancer Institute said, “Fluoride causes more human cancer death and causes it faster than any other chemical. Any institution who supports fluoridation is guilty of mass murder.”

Malnourished people, especially children and the elderly, and people with diabetes, kidney and heart disease are at greater risk from fluoride.

Sodium fluoride is a toxic waste product from the aluminum industry. It was used to kill rats and insects decades ago.

Sodium fluoride has
never been approved for safety or effectiveness by the EPA or the FDA.

Read the warning on a tube of fluoride toothpaste.

Recent studies of cities that stopped fluoridation have shown no increase in dental cavities and sometimes a decrease.

If you buy sodium fluoride in a stone, see the skull and crossbones on its label—a universal symbol for a deadly poison. Look up sodium fluoride in a reference book on poisons.

Fluoride corrodes city water mains, house plumbing and water heater components, causing them to need replacement much sooner. Do you want this corrosive poison permeating all your delicate body tissues every day?

Final action on whether to add fluoride to our water is scheduled for the monthly meeting of the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority on Wednesday, Feb. 26. Call 842-9287 for time and place. Come prepared to speak! Also, contact the board members in advance—the three city councilors Klarissa Peña, Rey Garduño and Trudy Jones, and the three county commissioners Art De La Cruz, Debbie O’Malley and Maggie Hart Stebbins.

Letters should be sent with the writer’s name, address and daytime phone number via email to letters@alibi.com. They can also be faxed to (505) 256-9651.
