Dateline: ColombiaA 30-year-old woman reportedly ate at least $7,000 in cash during a domestic dispute with her husband. According to doctors who surgically removed the money at the University Hospital of Santander, the woman swallowed several rolls of $100 bills during the fight. Doctors said they were able to extract 57 $100 bills from the woman’s stomach and intestines. The hospital’s Director of Surgery, Juan Paulo Serrano, told reporters the majority of the bills had been extracted, but several additional rolls would have to pass through the woman’s colon. The fact that the rolls of bills were not wrapped or packaged in any way suggests they were not swallowed for any form of illicit transport, Dr. Serrano said, but were likely ingested in an “act of desperation.” The unnamed woman told Bogotá’s RCN television channel she had saved up the money for a holiday with her husband by selling several electrical household items.Dateline: EnglandA man dressed in a gorilla suit managed to finish crawling the London Marathon after six and a half days, reports BBC. Tom Harrison, who bills himself as “Mr. Gorilla,” took nearly a week to complete the 26.2 mile route on his hands and knees. Harrison, who works as a Met police officer, spent between 10 and 12 hours per day crawling across London. Harrison told the Associated Press crawling the marathon gorilla-style was harder than he expected. “It’s shoulders, hamstrings, glutes, quads, from the constant crouching,” he said. “We’re not really designed to do that.” Harrison’s goal was to raise money for the Gorilla Organization, a charity that protects endangered gorillas in Africa. So far Harrison’s marathon crawl raised more than 50,000 pounds ($64,700) for the charity organization.Dateline: AustraliaA horse race in Australia took a bizarre turn when a wild kangaroo hopped onto the track and briefly took the lead position. Video from the final race of the day at a track in Cessnock, New South Wales was posted May 1 on Twitter by Sky Racing Australia. The short video shows the kangaroo hopping along the inside rail after wandering onto the course. After leading the pack, the kangaroo spots a break in the line of horses and bounds off the track. According to Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, the marsupial’s exit left a path open for a horse named Cunning As A Tiger, who claimed first place.Dateline: CambodiaPopular Cambodian actress Denny Kwan has been banned from making movies for one year because the country’s culture bosses determined she is “too sexy.” The 24-year-old Kwan has more than 300,000 Facebook followers and has made several movies, but was dragged in to a “re-education” session with the Culture and Fine Arts Ministry after it was determined she violated the government agency’s code of conduct. “In Cambodia there are many sexy artists. Some are even more than me when shooting, featuring kissing and being erotic,” Kwan said in a recent interview. “I know it’s my right to dress how I want, but our culture, Cambodian people, cannot accept it,” she told the Phnom Penh Post. “I will now try not to be sexy as I usually am when I post on Facebook.” The Culture and Fine Arts Ministry’s code of conduct aims to promote the “preservation, maintenance of arts, culture, tradition and the identity of the nation” and “prevent any negative effects of the arts and tradition of the nation.” For the next 12 months, Ms. Kwan is prevented from “having any activities in the entertainment industry … such as filming, karaoke and singing performances on TV”—a move that has caused outrage among freedom and women’s rights groups in Cambodia. According to the UK’s Daily Mail, Chamroeun Vantha, chief of the disciplinary council, said Kwan had been punished because she failed to respect a written promise she made with the ministry last May not to dress in a sexy way. Dateline: New JerseyPolice in Pequannock Township say they have busted the bandit who spent months stealing plants and other items from graves at a local cemetery—and it turned out to be a flower shop owner. Capt. Christopher DePuyt said in a news release that cameras were installed at the First Reformed Church Cemetery in Pompton Plains on April 21. Police replaced two of the plants that were stolen from in front of a mausoleum. Two days later the replacements went missing as well. The video cameras caught a woman in a silver mini van taking the plants. Riverdale officers recognized her as former police dispatcher and current flower shop owner Lynda Wingate. The 59-year-old owner of Lyncrafts & Floral Designs was arrested on a charge of theft of moveable property and released pending an appearance in municipal court. Wingate told police she was simply cleaning up old flowers from graves of people she knew, but Capt. DePuyt said that is not the case.
