Dateline: AustraliaA python ate a man’s shoe by mistake and had to receive emergency surgery for its removal. According to ABC News in Australia, a man awoke earlier this month to find one of his slippers missing. Days later, while searching for the missing shoe, he and a relative found a carpet python hiding inside his home. They said a large, shoe-shaped bulge could be seen in the snake’s body. Sally and Norman Hill, of N&S Snake Catcher, were called out to the residence to deal with the animal. Reportedly, when Norman went to collect the python, he discovered a hard object trapped inside the snake that he says could be felt through the animal’s skin. The snake was taken to a veterinarian and an X-ray confirmed the presence of the slipper. An emergency procedure called a coeliotomy and gastrotomy was performed under general anesthetic. Doctors entered the reptile’s stomach through an incision in its side and removed the foreign object. The surgery reportedly lasted less than an hour and was a success. The python is currently on anti-inflammatories, painkillers and antibiotics. It will be released back into the wild after it has recovered fully. Dateline: GermanyA German man approached police officials last week asking for advice on how to break up with his girlfriend. Deutsche Welle reports that a 34-year-old man entered a Ludwigshafen Police station and told officers that he wanted to end his relationship with his girlfriend but was unsure how. The man was reportedly led aside by a female officer who offered up some possible courses of action. She then sent the man on his way, but did not offer to break up with his girlfriend for him. “We are willing to advise, but we can not close the deal,” a police spokesperson said afterward. “We help everyone, and we always have an open ear for citizens’ concerns.” Whether the man decided to take the officer’s advice is unclear. It is unknown if he is still in a relationship.Dateline: InternetPornhub, one of the largest pornographic websites on the internet, is offering free premium memberships to its site for anyone living in a town with a sexually suggestive name. According to Vice, the popular pornographic site has announced a new initiative called Pornhub Premium Places. The project will give residents in towns like Cumbum, India, and Fucking, Austria, free access to their “premium” content. The site’s moderators claim the project was developed to relieve the suffering of those living in a town with a silly name. “So why all the fuss over places with names like Fucking, Rectum, or Dildo?” the announcement asked. “To make up for years of mockery, Pornhub has decided to name these special parts of the world as #PremiumPlaces.” The 10 cities in the US where the offer has been made are Fort Dick, Calif.; Hooker, Okla.; Bohners Lake, Wis.; Climax, Mich.; French Lick, Ind.; Big Bone, Ky.; Horneytown, N.C.; Cumming, Ga.; Big Beaver, Pa.; and Threeway, Va. Anyone living in a place they believe should have been listed but wasn’t can share it online with the hashtag #PremiumPlaces for consideration.Dateline: LouisianaA couple decided to reveal their baby’s gender using a live alligator. According to Huffington Post, footage was posted to Facebook last week of alligator wrangler and trainer Mike “T-Mike, the Gator King” Kliebert, who runs Kliebert’s Turtle and Alligator Farm in Hammond, La., feeding a watermelon to an alligator while friends and family watched. When the animal bit down, a blue liquid was released, indicating the baby was a boy. The alligator, a 61-year-old reptile named Sally, has been featured in numerous commercials and the television show “American Horror Story.” She reportedly received a large piece of chicken as a reward for her help with the event.Dateline: AustraliaArchaeologists at the Nicholson Museum in Sydney, Australia, discovered the remains of a 2,500 year old mummy inside a coffin that was believed to be empty. The sarcophagus was acquired by the University of Sydney around 1860 and was left untouched until last year, when the lid of the coffin was removed and researchers found mummified remains. Recently, researchers released information about the coffin’s occupant. USA Today reports the remains were that of an adult probably around the age of 30. According to researchers, hieroglyphs on the outside of the sarcophagus name the occupant as Mer-Neith-it-es, a priestess in the Temple of Sekhmet. They also date the coffin to around 600 BC. Using computed tomography (CT) scans and a laser scan, several bones, bandages, resin fragments and glass beads have been discovered in the sarcophagus. Scientists say the discovery will allow researchers a rare opportunity to examine the inner workings of a mummy, since it appears to have been “heavily disturbed” by what is assumed to have been grave robbers. Many mummies are found whole and intact and are left that way.
