Weekly Alibi and title sponsor Weedmaps presented the second annual medical cannabis festival, New Mexico Hemp Fiesta 2018, on Saturday, Aug. 4 attracting 6,700 attendees to Albuquerque’s Balloon Fiesta Park for a 9-hour outdoor event celebrating all things cannabis in our state. Vendors representing 78 local, regional and national businesses and nonprofit organizations offered both information and products; a vendor cross-section emphasized garden and grow supplies, medical cannabis dispensaries and producers, animal rescue organizations and self-care and wellness industry companies working with yoga, aromatherapy, nutrition, CBD and more.

Nine Hemposium speakers hailing from local and regional work in politics, drug policy reform and medical cannabis production and distribution weighed in on the national and state medical and recreational cannabis landscape. Live music by Albuquerque’s Red Light Cameras, Revíva, SuperGiant, The Talking Hours and Adam Hooks entertained from the main festival stage. Kid-friendly zones and activities included a bouncy castle, splash pads, a tie-dye center and face painting. A food court populated by local food trucks, a beer garden, a “chillum” tent and a dunking booth where local creative Lauren Poole and recent mayoral candidate Gus Pedrotty both took a dip.

Keep your eyes peeled for next year’s Hemp Fiesta and a new medical cannabis expo in Santa Fe coming in spring 2019. For more info, email advertising@alibi.com.
