Websites For Watchdogs

A couple weeks ago, we received an e-mail from a reader, asking us for a favor. He said, “As a loyal reader I count on getting some local news coverage from your paper … but … would you please do an article on the current representatives we have in Washington D.C. letting us know what their voting records are.” That, we can do. But a whole article really isn’t necessary, as there are several online resources that can give you all the information you need. To all you government watchdogs out there: This is for you.

For the voting records, biographies, campaign finances, issue positions, public statements and more on all your representatives, check out Vote-Smart.org http://www.vote-smart.org/index.htm.

To track campaign contributions for your state and representative, go to Opensecrets.org http://www.opensecrets.org/states/index.asp.

Lastly, if you’re interested in tracking lobbyist spending, Opensecrets.org has a great site for that as well http://www.opensecrets.org/lobbyists/index.asp.

If I’ve missed something, e-mail me at christie@alibi.com and I’ll add it to the list.
