A Bad News Day

I just verified a wicked rumor: Our fellow homegrown weekly Crosswinds printed its final issue last week. You might expect the Alibi to gloat over this news, but this isn't the case.

Crosswinds, which distributed in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, was founded in 1988. For more than a decade, it was helmed by veteran East Coast journalist Steve Lawrence. Editorially, the paper had good weeks, and it had bad weeks. In that sense, it wasn't so different from the Alibi.

It's always a sad day when a local media outlet goes out of business. Although I never really considered Crosswinds to be our competition—our content, coverage and readership are too dissimilar—I liked having them around.

See ya, CW. Maybe we'll meet up again someday at that great printing press in the sky.
