I find the “frame narrative” technique in this AARP commercial particularly effective. At first, the story of an elderly driver pulled over by an attractive female motorcyle cop unfolds. Then, when you least expect it… you weren’t really watching that commercial at all. You were watching a presentation of that commercial on a large screen within the AARP offices, and a nice young man in a suit proceeds to give you additonal information about AARP Auto Insurance. That makes for compelling television, in my book, and it’s the type of thing I hope to see a lot more of in the future. That, and programs like Matlock .
