Since there are 162 three-and-a-half hour games per season, it’s easy to lose track of what’s going on in Major League Baseball. But never fear, here’s a look into baseball’s present.

Beginning in the American League, the Los Angeles Angels have the best record in baseball at 75-44. The team has come on strong over the last half of the season, and nobody will want to face them in the playoffs. Speaking of the postseason, the New York Yankees are in danger of missing it for the first time in 13 years. Meanwhile the Tampa Bay Rays are poised to make their first trip to the playoffs in franchise history. The Rays, who played their first season in 1998, sit atop the American League East standings at 73-47.

In the American League Central, the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins are locked in a tight battle for first place. The White Sox are one game ahead of the Twins who are three games behind the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card race.

In the National League, the Chicago Cubs have the best record at 74-47. Cubies fans have been pinching themselves all year, but their team has not let them down.

The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies are battling for first place in the National League East, and the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers are tied for first in the miserable National League West division. Both teams are a mediocre 62-59. The Milwaukee Brewers (or the "Brew Crew" as they are charmingly referred to) are way ahead in the Wild Card race.

The important take home point from all of this is that no one should watch or care about baseball because the Yankees are terrible this year.
