Known for his mastery of the tri-tone lithograph as well as his humorous-yet-nightmarish surrealism, 73-year-old Bruce Lowney has been a fixture in the New Mexico arts landscape for almost 40 years. A native Angeleno and disciple of the Tamarind Institute, Lowney’s influences appear to include Magritte, Peter Blume and Edward Gorey. A retrospective of his works, showcasing 26 lithographs and oil paintings done over the last 40-odd years, will be on display tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at Exhibit/208 (208 Broadway SE). Be on the lookout for more on Lowney in the coming weeks, and check out this Alibi gallery preview from a few years back.
