Police Chief Ray Schultz today announced that Levi Chavez is no longer on the city’s payroll.

The former Albuquerque Police Department officer was put on paid administrative leave after his wife’s death for about a year and a half. During that time, he was paid $72,000, according to APD spokesperson Trish Hoffman. Then he was transferred to the Animal Welfare Department where he worked until today. During that time, he made about $83,500, Hoffman says.

In sum, since his wife’s death, taxpayers have paid Chavez about $155,000 in salary.
