For Survey Lovers

Here’s a chance for all you community-minded folks out there (and, c’mon, you wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t one of them) to take part in something great. Or at least really good. This press release came to us too late to mention in the calendars section of our paper, but this weekend Albuquerque Economic Development, Inc. and other local economic development groups will be conducting a labor market study that will hopefully help to increase economic development in the city. And they’re asking for your help.

If you have a couple minutes to devote to the cause, and confidentially answer a few questions about your education and work history, show up at one of the below locations between Thursday, March 2, to Sunday, March 5. Surveyors will be out in the mornings and afternoons.

Here a quote from the press release explaining a little more about the goals of the study:

“This project will help position the Albuquerque metro area to compete with other major regions in the global economy for the best economic development opportunities and the highest- level jobs. Detailed data will also be collected from employers and from a large cross-section of the workforce.

“In the short term this data will assist new and existing businesses in finding qualified workers, help workforce agencies match workers with jobs and training programs, and guide educators and other training providers in preparing the workforce for existing and emerging employment opportunities.

“Long term, this project will provide a plan to transition the workforce for a new economy which will require higher skills. Targeted industries may be refined or identified based on education, research and training assets as well as other key factors.”
