It truly seems like an unlikely pairing, but New Mexico is home to a surprising number of award-winning wineries—some just a few minutes outside of the metro-Albuquerque area. But have you ever wondered why? Now even the most novice of winos can satisfy their bacchanalian curiosity at this week's “History in the Making” Wine Seminar. The Albuquerque Tricentennial event will chronicle New Mexico's First Family of Wine, from their French wine-making heritage to the celebrated fruits of their labor in the Land of Enchantment. Several members of the Gruet family will do the telling themselves, but we'll happily let their wine do some of the talking, too. If you haven't yet been to the Gruet Steakhouse (in the bottom floor of the old Monte Vista Fire Station), this is an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with one Albuquerque's most exciting new restaurants. The cost is just $20 per person, which includes the talk, wine and food samples. Call 256-9463 for reservations.
